Local favorite and Guinness World Record holder, Kevin Smith, is recovering after suffering a “massive” heart attack over the weekend. The filmmaker started to feel ill after finishing one of two standup comedy shows he was performing at in Los Angeles.
After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground! pic.twitter.com/M5gSnW9E5h

Smith tweeted out a photo of himself in a hospital gown after being treated for the incident, explaining how doctors discovered that one of his arteries was 100% blocked. In an Instagram post, he went on to write about how the entire experience reminded him of his father, who unfortunately passed away after suffering a heart attack. Always the one to stay optimistic, Smith says that this life-changing moment will have an impact on his future.
Red Bank has a special place in Smith’s heart, so we wish him a safe and speedy recovery through all of this!
