Summer events in 2020 have been few and far between, but we’ve been impressed by what our local communities have been able to come up with. Even though it was almost unlikely to happen, Taste of Highlands 2020 proceeded to go forward with protective measures in place for participants. Organized by the Highlands Business Partnership, it was certainly a very different event from past years — but one that continues to show the strength of the Highlands business community.

Featuring lite bites and refreshments from a variety of businesses, Taste of Highlands offered foodies everything they crave in a food tasting event. Each participating business appropriately portioned and handled all the food, instead of having people grabbed them from trays. It was one of the many precautions put into place for this year’s event! Groups of people were adhering to social distancing guidelines and masks were worn.

The weather, obviously, is always the biggest challenge to overcome. Needless to say, it was a bit humid, but there was a bit of a breeze every now and then. Given the current climate around the pandemic, it’s no surprise that this year’s Taste of Highlands wasn’t as busy. But still, continuing to host the event was indeed a refreshing change of scenery for the many that participated in it.
As for the bites, they covered the gamut — consisting of comfort foods to perfectly portioned seafood creations. The portions have always been generous and continues to be that way with this year’s event, which makes Taste of Highlands so wonderful versus other food tasting events. While other towns have either postponed or cancelled some of their big events for the summer, it’ll be interesting to see what Highlands ends up doing.
