Kevin Smith fans came out to support director’s Clerks 3 screenplay reading in Atlantic Highlands [video]

Kevin Smith fans came out in standard fashion to support the movie director/actor/comic book geek/general good guy’s screenplay reading of Clerks 3 at an intimate event that aimed also to benefit the First Avenue Playhouse in Atlantic Highlands yesterday, August 3rd.

Kevin Smith arriving at the First Avenue Playhouse in Atlantic Highlands on August 3, 2019.

Smith’s return to Jersey around this time of the year has been an annual tradition, following after previous events like last year’s Vulgarthon in Red Bank, as well as a Guinness World record setting event at his comic book haven, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, over in Red Bank.

This year’s special occasion was a bit more intimate, giving his diehard fans a special reading of his Clerks 3 screenplay. For us, it was more compelling to understand the impact Smith has made to some of these fans. Some live close by and locally, while others travelled from farther distances — just for that rare opporunity to see him in person.

And let us tell you, these fans are appreciative and humble about what Kevin has done and continues to do. We interviewed several of the fans that were there to watch the live reading of the Clerks 3 screenplay, some of which told about stories about when they were younger and how the movie director helped them out through difficult times.

Stu Greenberg of Bridgewater probably summed it up best by saying, “I’m a Kevin Smith fan because all of these people here are now my friends. And basically, the fans of Kevin Smith are a fraternity and a sorority of a group of people that enjoy his story telling and I think it’s a commonality that we all enjoy.

You can watch our video above, which includes the interviews with some of Smith’s fans at the event — as well as photo below!
