SmallRig Cage for Panasonic Lumix G85: Behind the scenes at the Red Bank Holiday Flavour Tasting event

Shooting the video for the Red Bank Holiday Flavour Tasting Event last week was a lot of fun! Not only did we indulge on the variety of delicious bites and treats that were being served up there, but we enjoyed capturing every moment of the experience.

For this particular shoot, we used the SmallRig Cage for the Panasonic Lumix G85, which really helped us to effectively shoot the video. There’s always a bunch of gear involved whenever we shoot a video, like the camera itself, the monopod, microphones, and other accessories.

In helping with the on-location shooting, the SmallRig Cage we used with our Panasonic Lumix G85 allowed us to fasten some of our most used accessories simultaneously – rather than swapping them out. Armed with several cold shoe mounts, we were able to attach shotgun and wireless microphones, as well as an articulating Rosette arm for our 360-degree camera.

Getting the cage set up for the first time took quite a while connecting all the parts together and fastening them with the included bolts, but once the camera is fully enclosed in it, you’re probably not going to ever take it apart again. That’s because it’s just a hassle having to unscrew everything.

In terms to handling, we do appreciate that there are handles and NATO arms that are available as add-ons. Not only are they great for handling the camera, but it also adds a little bit of stabilization. Paired with the in-body 5-axis stabilization of the Panasonic G85, it’s plausible to get some steady motion footage without too much shake.

Overall, the SmallRig Cage for the Panasonic Lumix G85 is a versatile cage for filmmakers and enthusiasts who want the convenience of customizing their rigs. It surely helped us with the shoot for the Red Bank Holiday Flavour Tasting event, so don’t forget to watch the video above to see it in action! And if you’re interested in purchasing the cage, it retails for $80 online through SmallRig’s website.
