Celebrate Italian Culture And Cuisine At The Belmar Feast Of San Gennaro. You don’t have to be of Italian descent to enjoy the Belmar Feast of San Gennaro at the Jersey Shore. This year’s two-day cultural and culinary celebration takes place September 14 and 15, 2019, in downtown Belmar, New Jersey, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition to plenty of Italian food, you’ll find live music, dancing, and vendor shopping along the festival route between 10th and 12th Avenues in Belmar. Shops and restaurants throughout Belmar will also be open during the festival.
The original San Gennaro Festival started in Little Italy (New York) in 1926 by recently arrived Italian immigrants to honor the patron saint of their hometown, St. Gennaro. Belmar launched its inaugural Feast of San Gennaro in 2012 as a way of giving back to the Jersey Shore community.
On Saturday, September 14, the celebration begins at 10 a.m. with a special Mass of San Gennaro at St. Rose Catholic Church in Belmar. The Mass will be presented in Italian. Immediately after Mass, join the procession down Main Street, where the Statue of San Gennaro will be proudly displayed in the center of Main Street for all to see and honor.
During the event, Belmar Mayor Mark Walsifer will recognize local residents Rosalba Mistretta Morris with a San Gennaro of the Jersey Shore Italian-American Businesswoman of the Year award and Maria Florio with a Daughter of San Gennaro of the Jersey Shore award. The mayor will also honor a San Gennaro of the Jersey Shore Italian-American Businessman of the Year and a Son of San Gennaro of the Jersey Shore (recipients TBD).
It’ll be held from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on both days between 10th and 12th Avenues in Belmar, NJ.
