The Kids Picture Show Opening & Exhibition at the Oyster Point Hotel on November 8th

Swing on by The Oyster Point Hotel on Thursday, November 8th, as the final art exhibit of 2018 at the location, “The Kids Picture Show,” is set to be unveiled from artists Mike Ciccotello, Leeza Hernandez and Tim Aanensen – all of which will have a kid-friendly theme with their artwork. After the unveiling, you can enjoy some light hors d’oeuvres and special treats.

Mike Ciccotello, Leeza Hernandez and Tim Aanensen are the headliners in the final exhibit of 2018 at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank. This one’s a little bit different, but no less engaging than the earlier exhibits occupying the public gallery spaces of the Hotel. “After four conventional art shows, I wanted to put on something light and happy to end our year and kick off the holiday season,” says Curator Ellen Martin. The opening will be on Thursday, November 8th from 5:30 – 7:30, and will feature kid-friendly hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

Mike Ciccotello is well known to many people through his exhibits in Red Bank and his delightful series of coffee cup illustrations. But “I was having difficulty with my fine art. It was enjoyable, but not completely satisfying. I had always circled around the idea of illustrating books for children,” says Mike.  Against everyone’s advice, he proceeded to put in the hard work needed to become a children’s book illustrator. It has paid off for him – In 2017, he was offered representation from an agent and one year later she sold his debut author-illustrator picture book, TWINS, to be published in 2019 by Farrah Straus Giroux, an imprint of Macmillan.

Leeza Hernandez decided at 12 that she was going to write and illustrate books for kids. Twenty years later, working in newspapers and magazines—and as a freelance editorial illustrator—she stumbled across the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and that childhood dream was reignited. “My role is to entice young readers to connect to the characters and the story as a whole that will spark a reaction in them. I want them to become emotionally invested, to resonate or see themselves, all with a desire to keep turning the page and wanting to know more,” says Leeza.

Tim Aanensen has been an artist his whole life. “My parents have always been supportive, and enrolled me in private classes at age ten. Later, I studied Fine Art at Hamilton College, University College London, and The National Academy of Design in NYC.,” Tim told us.  He loves creating simple images that are also captivating and emotionally satisfying. Tim will be pursuing publication for a book of his own creation.

The Oyster Point is located at 146 Bodman Place in Red Bank, NJ – a short cab ride away from the Red Bank NJ Transit station.
