Judging is based on creativity, resourcefulness, originality, and accessories. Because the sandcastle designs eventually get washed into the ocean, participants are encouraged to use environmentally friendly materials when creating their masterpieces.

In 2017, the grand-prize winners were the Bikini Boys from Seaside Heights, New Jersey, who were first-time entrants in the contest. Their Best on Beach creation was titled “Etch-a-Dragon.”

The New Jersey Sandcastle Contest is presented by the Belmar Tourism Commission and D’Jais.

This is a free event open to all ages, but there will be various age groups for participants to compete in as mentioned above. It’ll be held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Belmar beach.
